This may seem like an odd thing to say, given that we’re a steak company, but: When it comes to enjoying the best steak dinner at home, there’s a lot more to it than just the steak.
Of course you know that the steak itself matters. It’s the centerpiece of your night, and it needs to be delicious and perfectly cooked. Naturally, we recommend a Diablo; you won’t find any better cut of beef for your home steak experience.
However, we also recommend investing in more than just the steak itself—in more than just the meal. We’ll assume, for a moment, that you already know how important it is to get a great steak and to prepare it well. What other factors go into making your home-cooked steak meal special?
For starters, there’s your company: Sharing the meal with someone special. Though perhaps that also goes without saying.
There are matters of ambiance, of course. Having the right music helps—perhaps a bit of light jazz in the background. Keeping the TV news on, meanwhile, only detracts from your moment, from your experience, from your time together.
There’s the wine, which is hopefully chosen thoughtfully, matched well with the steak itself.
There’s the preparation for the steak, the ritual; even this can be part of your special evening, if you and your partner choose to enjoy that time together rather than simply grilling while you’ve got the game on.
There is plenty you can do to minimize hassle and distraction, like feeding the kids and putting them to bed before you and your partner sit down for the meal. And speaking of distractions, why not leave your cellphones off in the bedroom, out of sight and out of mind? Be where your bodies are, and engage one another without the temptation to check the news or log into Twitter.
Perhaps what matters most is your intention—and your openness to the fact that, whether it’s a special occasion or not, you can make your home steak dinner memorable. You can make it great.
